How can I use the HTTP connector to access Shopify's API?

After attempting to use Workato to manage my Shopify store, I realised that there were quite a number of the Shopify functions which were not available with the connector. As such, I was wondering if it's possible for me to make use of the Workato HTTP connector to make HTTP GET/POST requests to the Shopify API directly to accomplish whatever task I need to do. Any help with this issue is much appreciated.

Hi Saul, this is indeed possible to accomplish. I've created a recipe which shows how this can be done at https://www.workato.com/recipes/606883-shopify-http-basic-header-auth#recipe.

Please follow the steps below for more guidance.

  1. Generate your API key and password at https://[Your Store Name].myshopify.com/admin/apps/private.image
  2. Create a HTTP connector action in your recipe. Set the Method to POST/GET (based on your use case)image
  3. Configure the action with the correct Request headers and Request body. You should rely on the Shopify API docs at https://help.shopify.com/api/getting-started/authentication/private-authentication#generate-credentials-from-the-shopify-admin for more details on what data needs to be sent over via the HTTP action as well as what format it should be in.image
  4. Fill in an accurate example of the Response body. This step is important to allow the response from Shopify to be parsed into data pills within the Workato API.image
  5. You are done!
