Copy/Paste Individual Action or Block of Actions

With the recent release of the import/export feature it made me realize that it should be possible to "copy and paste" individual actions or blocks of actions. It would work like this:

Configured Actions

  • Next to the Comment, Clone and Delete icons, add another button that allows you to copy the action.
  • The default behavior is to copy this action and anything underneath it.
  • Clicking this button copies everything about this action, including the pills.
  • It automatically adds the XML data to your desktop's clipboard.
  • You're thinking to yourself this is just like duplicate.... except this functionality isn't for "pasting" into the same recipe. We want to paste into a different recipe.
"Add a new step" Menu
  • Here we add an option to "Paste an Action(s)"
  • Clicking it will create an action that has a place where you can paste your XML data from your "copied" action(s).
  • It will then replicate exactly as it was in the other recipe; application, fields, pills (even if they're wrong/don't match), nested actions included.
Use Case
  • You've built a complex set of actions that you'd like to reuse in another recipe.
  • One of our current options is to duplicate that recipe and build from there. This is a poor choice because your recipe is now a "child" of the parent recipe (i.e. upgrades to the child recipe show). It also doesn't work if you've already built your new recipe.
  • Another option, if you're savvy enough, is to export your recipe, manually edit the XML and then import it. This doesn't really achieve the ability "paste" into a current recipe.
  • This would really help when you've got multiple actions that have 10+ pills that need to be replicated.
