App Data / Data Pill
Data Fields (also known as Data Pills) are data from previous steps that you can drag and drop (or simply click on the pill while an input field is highlighted) to place into inputs fields on the left. Doing so simply maps the Data Fields into the Input Fields. These Data Fields can usually be found on the right side of the recipe within Data Trees.

When you click on any steps, the App Data Column will appear on the right.
There are a few things that you can take note of the App Data Section :
Data pills Type
All the data pills available are the fields of the step's output. Note the logos beside them
: This is a normal text field. It can contain a mix of alphabetical and numerical characters. A Text field cannot be used for arithmetic computation or Date comparison. See Formula Mode section on how you can perform such actions.
: This is a numerical field. It stores only numerical values. These values are not texts, and can be used for numerical computation.
- Calendar Symbol
: This is a date field. It can be used for data comparisons
- A white circle and a Black Circle
: This is a boolean field. It stores the value true or false. When checking on a boolean field in conditional action, remember to use Is True or Is False instead of typing the word out.
Data pills available in the app data are all the output of the action steps above the current steps you are on. Here is a screenshot as an example.
Clicking on the step shows the data fields available for me to do the field mapping. On the right side, the app data available to me are the action steps above the current step.
Now that you are familiar with data mapping, feel free to start working on your first recipe! Feel free to browse through Workato user's community recipes, or get to the recipe How-To section to get some idea on how you can modify your recipe.
