We have just released a major update for On-prem files connector with several new triggers & actions, as well as deprecating some old versions of triggers & actions.
How this update will affect you
This update will NOT affect your current running recipes. We will continue to support the deprecated triggers and actions, and your current recipes will keep running as normal. However, when you create a new recipe, you will only see the new triggers/actions and not see the deprecated ones.
We strongly recommend to use the new triggers and actions going forward. They will bring major improvements to your workflow & automation with on-prem files. Check out the changes below.
2 new triggers & 3 new actions:
1) New trigger: New CSV file in folder [BATCH]
This trigger uses a new mechanism to track new CSV files in folder more accurately, compared to the old trigger New/updated files and folders which can miss new files in certain situations (e.g. file's created-date is before trigger starts).
It can also output CSV rows in batch and can support unlimited number of rows, so you can easily process large enterprise CSV files. It also has a built-in scheduler, so you can configure the trigger schedule as needed (e.g 9am Monday every week).
You can learn more in this doc: https://docs.workato.com/connectors/on-prem-files/trigger-new-csv.html
2) New trigger: New file in folder
This trigger works similarly to the New CSV file in folder trigger above, but tracks all files instead of just CSV files. It can outputs file contents and support unlimited file size, so you can easily transfer large files to other systems.
You can learn more in this doc: https://docs.workato.com/connectors/on-prem-files/trigger-new-file.html
3) New action: Move file
Now you can easily move file from one on-prem folder to another on-prem folder. Previously you can work around by downloading & uploading the file. But we see the frequent need of users to move files around, so we figure it's worth building a separate action.
4) New action: Download file
This new action allows you to download file of unlimited size from on-prem folder, and will replace the old action Get file contents (which has a limit of ~10MB). This will make it much easier for you to work with large enterprise files.
5) New action: Upload file
This new action allows you to upload file of unlimited size to on-prem folder, and will replace the old action Send file in directory (which has limit of ~10MB). Another action that will make it easier for you to deal with large enterprise file.
What will be deprecated
1 old trigger & 4 old actions
Note that the deprecated triggers and actions listed here will NOT affect your current recipes. We will continue to support them. It's just that when you create a new recipe, you will not see the deprecated triggers/actions, but only the new ones.
1) Deprecated trigger: New/updated files and folders
We discovered some problems with this trigger. Due to the sometimes inconsistent behaviours of file's created-date in Windows and Linux, this trigger may mis-read the date and miss new files in folder.
We thus implement a more accurate tracking mechanism in the new triggers New file in folder and New CSV file in folder [BATCH]. It's highly recommended that you switch to using those new triggers.
Learn how to use the new triggers here:
2) Deprecated action: Get file content
This action has file size limit of 50MB. It will be replaced by the new action Download file that supports unlimited file size.
3) Deprecated action: Send file in directory
This action has file size limit of 50MB. It will be replaced by the new action Upload file that supports unlimited file size.
4) Deprecated action: Append content to file
Previously when you need to upload a large file, you need to use this action to append content part by part. However this is not needed anymore, since the new action Upload file allows you to upload file of unlimited size.
5) Deprecated action: Read lines from CSV file
We see low usage of this action, and think it's not very useful because of the 100-line limit. To read CSV file, we recommend you to use the new trigger New CSV file in folder [BATCH] (unlimited number of rows), or use action Parse CSV under CSV by Workato connector (50,000 rows limit).
